SCOE-03-P5 - Lean Distribution

Featuring Bob Trent

Length: 1 hour 23 minutes

Creating a Lean Supply Chain Part V: Lean Distribution

Channels of distribution are an important part of almost all supply chains. Given that most lean discussions focus on lean manufacturing or operations, it should come as no surprise that lean distribution has received minimal attention. This is a mistake given the value-added role that distribution channels must play within the context of global supply chains. At the end of this module the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the value-added role of distribution channels and distribution centers

  • Understand the differences between warehouses and distribution facilities

  • Understand how firms use distribution strategies to manage working capital from a financial perspective

  • Identify ways to drive waste from the distribution network

  • Understand the trends and innovations that will affect lean distribution
